Safe Traveling Tips

– The Right Coverage

You want to have the right coverage before you head out on the road. Ideally, your insurance levels should be high enough to cover your assets in the event that you cause an accident. Review your policy every six months to be sure that it’s still meeting your needs and fits your budget.

If you feel that it’s time for a change, then use an online comparison tool to view three to four different policies. Review your needs ahead of time so that you can look at comparable plans.

– Get a Tune-Up

When it comes to your car, the first order of business is to have it tuned up and checked over by your mechanic before you make the trip. Minor repairs can be addressed before they cause you to break down on the side of the road.

– Check Car Seats and Booster Seats

Once you have the car back home, check all seat belts to see that they lock firmly with a properly working release latch. If you have younger children in booster seats or car seats, then have them checked by your local fire department for proper installation.

– Carry an Emergency Kit

Carry an emergency kit with first aid supplies, a backup charger for the cell phone, basic tools for changing tires, road flares, jumper cables, and warm blankets.

Remember your sunscreen and bug repellant. You’ll also want to check the back seat for stray toys that can turn into projectiles, and confirm that the child locks are working properly.
